You are listening to Seems Like a Mighty Long Time, by Barbara Lewis

Popular at the turn of the century, calendar post cards were a way to welcome in the new year by mail. Some representative works are included here. These cards are part of my collection and all have been restored by me in some form or another. I've also designed all the frames.

The day and date can be changed by turning wheels sandwiched between artwork on one side and postal information on the other. Most, but not all, of the calendars referenced the new year. Few if any bore the signature of the artist who created them. An exception to this is the Heart's Sunshine calendar, created by Ellen Clapsaddle. Unlike all the other calendars on this page, Clapsaddle's work is comprised of four separate panels that I've combined in an animation.
