You are listening to Helen Reddy's You and Me Against the World*

This is my grandmother, Nina, and my father, Robert, in 1913.  I was raised by my grandmother and this is my treasured picture of her.  Following are some of the other matriarchs in our extended family and Mother's Day quotations that seem to fit them.  When you finish your visit, please sign my guest book.

One of my favorite quotes on the subject of motherhood is this one by Charlotte Gray: "Becoming a mother makes you the mother of all children. From now on each wounded, abandoned, frightened child is yours. You live in the suffering mothers of every race and creed and weep with them. You long to comfort all who are desolate."

I'm the proud mother of Carrie, Mark, Erik, Jason, Heather and Adam

Grandmother of Matt, Chloe [below], Justin and Connor

"The lullaby is the spell whereby the mother attempts to transform herself back from an ogre to a saint."  James Fenton

My mother-in-law Helen, the mother of Louis, Mark [below], Paul and Duane

Grandmother of Carrie, Mark, Erik, Jason, Heather, Adam, Amber, Kimberly, Danielle, Amelia, Kylie, Zoe, Aiden and Jenna

"No matter how old a mother is, she watches her middle-aged children for signs of improvement."  Florida Scott-Maxwell

My sister-in-law Lyn, mother of Amber and [below] Kimberly, and Danielle

"When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts.  A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child."  Sophia Loren

My sister-in-law Teri, mother of Aiden and Jenna [below]

"A mother is not a person to lean on, but a person to make leaning unnecessary."  Dorothy Canfield Fisher

My daughter Carrie, mother of Matt [and below] Justin and Connor

"At work, you think of the children you have left at home. At home, you think of the work you've left unfinished. Such a struggle is unleashed within yourself. Your heart is rent." Golda Meir

My daughter Heather, godmother of Chloe and godmother-to-be of Connor [pictures below]

"I'm a godmother, that's a great thing to be, a godmother. She calls me god for short, that's cute, I taught her that."  Ellen DeGeneres

Rene, mother of Chloe and expecting a baby in November

"The mother's heart is the child's schoolroom."  Henry Ward Beecher

Mother of Melissa, Beth, Michael and Rene [above]

"The heart of a mother is a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will always find forgiveness."  Honore de Balzac

"Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body." Elizabeth Stone

You rock Judith!

Thanks for taking the time to visit.

In the photo below, Carrie, Justin, Chloe and Rene were actually walking on a street, headed for the playground.  But this is Nana's digital world.  I thought it would be more dramatic to send them off on a grand adventure to parts unknown.  BBR

Lyrics to You and Me Against the World, sung by Helen Reddy

You and me against the world,
Sometimes it seems like you and me against the world.
When all the others turn their backs and walked away,
You can count on me to stay.

Remember when the circus came to town
How you were frightened by the clown?
Wasn't it nice to be around
someone that you knew,
Someone who was big and strong and looking out for you?

You and me against the world,
Sometimes it seems like you and me against the world.
And for all the times we've cried
I always felt that God was on our side.

And when one of us is gone,
And one of us is left to carry on,
Then remembering will have to do,
Our memories alone will get us through.
Think about the days of me and you,
Of you and me against the world.
